The Kansas Department of Health and Environment's (KDHE) Bureau of Family Health, in partnership with the March of Dimes (MOD), utilizes the Becoming a Mom/Comenzando bien® evidence-based prenatal education curriculum at the center of its collaborative approach to delivering comprehensive prenatal education and support in Kansas. Access to the Becoming a Mom/Comenzando bien® instructor's manual and curriculum handouts provided online by the March of Dimes.
In Kansas, the original March of Dimes curriculum has been supplemented with additional handouts addressing Title V priority areas such as breastfeeding, safe sleep, newborn safety, and early childhood development topics, preterm birth, inter-conception health, etc. See the table of contents for a comprehensive list of handout titles included in the Kansas model. The curriculum is reviewed on an annual basis and updated as needed and upon the availability of curriculum updates provided by MOD.
Memorandum of Understanding
KDHE and MOD have worked together to provide clear guidelines for the implementation of this expanded curriculum in Kansas while protecting the March of Dimes trademark on the Becoming a Mom/Comenzando bien® curriculum. For access to these guidelines, the comprehensive curriculum handouts utilized by the Kansas model, session PowerPoints, Lesson Plans, Activity Plans, and many other essential resources, please complete the required memorandum of Understanding required for program implementation.
