The Compliance and Data Management Unit of the Public Water Supply Section implements State and Federal monitoring and compliance requirements to ensure safe drinking water is supplied by all Kansas Public Water Systems (PWSs). Sampling and reporting requirements are provided to each PWS according to monitoring requirements specific to that water system. Each PWS collects and provides required samples to either the Kansas Health and Environmental Laboratories (KHEL) or a Kansas certified lab for analysis. Sample results are reviewed by KDHE to determine compliance.
Exceedance of Maximum Contaminant Levels (MCLs) or Action Levels (ALs) in accordance to State and Federal Drinking Water Regulations may warrant additional requirements as determined by the governing rule. Examples are increased monitoring, providing public notice to drinking water patrons, and adjusting water treatment procedures and practices.
Monitoring and compliance issues that require enforcement action are referred to the Capacity Development and Enforcement Unit.
