Kansas Perinatal Hepatitis B Prevention

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) and local health departments provide case management to infants born to women with hepatitis B infection. Hepatitis B can easily be transmitted from an infected woman to her infant during delivery, to protect the newborn KDHE works with local health departments to ensure the infant:

  • Receives 1st dose of hepatitis B vaccine and hepatitis B immunoglobulin (HBIG) within 12 hours of birth
  • Complete the full hepatitis B vaccine series
  • Received post-vaccine serological testing (PVST)
    • PVST includes testing for hepatitis B surface antigen and surface antibody
