Northcentral District Office

The North Central District Office, or NCDO, serves a 17 county area encompassing 12,539 square miles. The population is 237,944 according to the 2000 Census. There are 5,336 miles of rivers and streams, and 138 square miles of public lakes and wetlands. Surface water and groundwater sources supply the drinking water for the area. The NCDO lies within the confines of four major river basins; the Kansas Lower Republican, Solomon, Neosho, and Smoky-Hill Saline. Watershed Restoration and Protection Strategies are currently being developed and implemented within each of the four basins. The NCDO is home to a diverse and complex variety of industry, and contains the largest number of livestock facilities of the six KDHE districts. The NCDO is staffed with 11 environmental and administrative staff.

Air Compliance

Staff in this unit perform compliance inspections of sources of air pollution. This unit is also responsible for the issuance of open burning exemptions and investigating complaints associated with ambient air contaminants.
