Kansas Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program

The Kansas Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program (KSFMNP) is funded by the United States Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition Service. The program provides annual benefits to low-income seniors to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables, herbs and honey from certified farmers at Farmers Markets in Kansas.

Goals of the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program

  • Increase consumption of fruits and vegetables for optimal health
  • Increase direct marketing of Kansas foods
  • Provide resources in the form of fresh, nutritious, unprepared, locally grown fruits, vegetables, herbs and honey from farmers markets, roadside stands, and Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) programs to low income seniors
  • Increase the domestic consumption of agricultural commodities by expanding or aiding in the expansion of domestic farmers markets, roadside stands, and CSA programs
  • Develop or aid in the development of new and additional farmers markets, roadside stands, and CSA programs
